Children’s Services of Roxbury is committed to providing support and services that build on the strengths of the biological family system, address possible risks, and prevent out-of-family placements. However, in situations where this is not possible, CSR’s Comprehensive Foster Care Program works to place children in stable, loving, nurturing foster homes. Our goal is to find both short-term and long-term placements for at-risk children and youth with a broad range of emotional, physical and developmental special needs. Reunification with the child’s biological family is our goal. When that is not feasible, foster care providers and staff work together to formulate an alternate plan for permanency such as kinship care, guardianship, or adoption.
Through the following services, our experienced social workers train foster parents to handle the demands of caring for children.
Services Provided
- Eight weeks of comprehensive training
- Access to full-time social workers and case managers
- Weekly check-in and progress meetings
- Continuous training in effective foster parenting techniques
- Individualized, in-home strategic plans to address specific needs of the foster child
Our dedicated foster parents involve themselves in all aspects of a child’s development, serving as strong advocates and as an integral part of the child’s service team. Our foster families join with parents, extended family members, and when necessary, adoptive families to achieve treatment plan goals which include permanency for children. This engagement is critical to successful visitation and reunification, and contributes to successful adoption placement when reunification is not possible.
CSR ‘s Comprehensive Foster Care Program is designed to assist DCF in placing children in culturally, linguistically and ethnically matched and approved foster homes within their own community. These homes are unrestricted foster care resources. The identification and support of kinship families is a priority for both DCF and CSR as an alternative to family foster care and as a potential resource for permanent placement. In addition, CSR providers collaborate with DCF in the support and management of these homes through the screening, assessment, pre-service, MAPP (Massachusetts Approach Positive Parenting) training and home study process.
